Monopoly Strategy - Guide to Competitive Strategies

Participating in a Monopolytm tournament can be fun, and there are sometimes large prizes up for grabs, but you need a killer Monopoly strategy if you are to succeed. Monopolytm has been one of the most popular board games in the world since its introduction by Parker Brothers in the 1930's, which means that there are millions of skilled players. Here are some strategies for carving out a win in even the most cutthroat Monopolytm games, whether tournament or informal.

First, and most importantly, you must buy as much as possible. If you are going to make monopolies, you are going to have to acquire properties. Perhaps more importantly, buying up all the property you can will block your opponents from creating their own monopolies. Mortgage properties if you must, but buy, buy, buy.

Second, you have to keep moving. If you find yourself in jail, go ahead and pay the $50 to get out immediately. You may want to try to save your money by rolling doubles, but the likelihood is that you will not be able to come up with a good roll, and you will have wasted three turns while the other players snap up more properties. Saving the $50 can be very expensive when it comes to missed opportunities later in the game.

Third, use trading very carefully. Make sure that any trades you enter into with another player benefit you much more. Do not trade a player any property that will grant them a completed monopoly unless it grants you a much better one. If this means that you cannot find a trading partner, so be it. If you create a situation in which nobody has a clear path to victory, other players will begin playing sloppily, and you will be able to exploit the situation.

Fourth, be diplomatic. Do not do anything to any other player that will cause others to team up against you. No matter how good your strategy, if the other players on the board turn on you, you will never be able to beat them all. Remaining neutral and fair with all other players should keep the others from ganging up on you.

Fifth, do whatever you can to obtain the orange property color group. New York Avenue, Tennessee Avenue, and St. James Place are the best values in the game, and are among the most frequently visited. If you have to give another player a property that will give them a monopoly to complete your own orange monopoly, do it. There is no other group that can touch these three's ability to change a game to your favor.

Finally, if the game turns sour, try to band together with another player to take down the leader. This is where the relationships you have built can come in handy. With the leader removed from the picture, you can always turn your attentions to your partners next.
